The Department of English, School of Humanities and Social Sciences intends to hold a guest talk on "The Thousand Desires of Mirza Ghalib: Nineteenth-Century Urdu Literary Culture" on 26 February, 2021(Friday). Details of the event are given below.
Objectives of the Event-
The second half of the nineteenth century had witnessed the advent of some of the finest stars of Urdu literature. Urdu literature made a special momentum in their hands. Mirza Ghalib was one of the brightest among them; Ghalib appeared in a time when the splendor of the Mughal Empire was gloomy. The speaker will discuss the themes in Ghalibs work, his time and his other writings to understand his poetic thoughts. The Talk will try to explore the untraveled space of Ghalibs poetry, the varied poetic tradition in which Ghalibs poetry is confidently located. Literature enthusiasts will be able to realize the necessity for multiple ways of seeing and engaging with the patchy and culturally torn world of ours.
