Dr. Tanni Moitra is an Assistant Professor of History at School of Humanities and Social Sciences in Sharda University. Dr. Moitra has completed her M.A., M.Phil and PhD from Center of Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University and did her graduation in History from Presidency College, Kolkata. Her PhD titled “Extraordinary Circumstances: A Study of Āpad and Āpaddharma in Early Indian Literary Traditions” was awarded in 2018. Pursuing her career in research, she completed her postdoctoral studies titled “Rethinking the Sacred Landscape of Ancient Gandhāra” from at Ludwig-Maximilian University (LMU), Munich. She received her postdoctoral fellowship under the aegis of the prestigious Anneliese-Maier Research Award funded by the Humboldt Foundation (2016-2019). She was also a recipient of the Junior Research Fellowship for her Ph.D. by the Indian Council of Historical Research (2013-2015).
Prior to joining Sharda University, Dr. Moitra worked as Assistant Professor at Adamas University, Kolkata where she also headed the Department of History. She also worked at Jain (Deemed-to be-University) in Bangalore where she was one of the founding faculty members of the School of Creative Liberal Education (SCLE).
Her research interests include Religious studies; manuscripts of ancient South Asia, epic studies and Buddhist and Jain narrative texts.
