About

Dr. Ali Imam Abidi is a distinguished academician and researcher specializing in computer vision, visual data analytics, and deformable image registration. He holds a Ph.D. from IIT (BHU) Varanasi, where his research focused on innovative methodologies for deformable image registration, particularly in the context of thoracic CT images. His expertise lies in developing and applying advanced computational techniques to solve complex problems in medical imaging and data analysis. His Ph.D. research explored the development of three registration algorithms aimed at accurately registering thoracic image sequences and addressing the challenges posed by breathing-induced deformations. This work has significant implications for medical imaging and clinical research, providing a foundation for more accurate analysis of thoracic images.
Throughout his career, Dr. Abidi has been associated with several prestigious institutions and has 9 years of professional experience in both industry and academia. He is currently serving as an Associate Professor at the School of Engineering & Technology, Sharda University, where he teaches courses in big data analytics, image feature data analysis, and computer vision. Prior to this he has served as Software Quality Analyst at Infosys Ltd. and UX/UI expert for Design Clinic Scheme, a Ministry of MSMEs, Govt. of India initiative with its nodal centre at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.
Dr. Abidi's research contributions are extensive and impactful. He has published numerous articles in reputable international journals, covering a wide range of topics from deformable image registration and pain intensity prediction to optical character recognition and sentiment analysis using deep learning. His work has been recognized in leading journals such as ACM Transactions, National Academy Science Letters, International Journal of Parallel Programming, IEEE Transactions etc. Additionally, he has contributed to conferences and authored book chapters on advanced topics like ear biometric based cloud security and Alzheimer's disease diagnosis using deep learning.
Dr. Abidi's commitment to academic excellence extends beyond research. He has been instrumental in developing innovative courses and curricula, including healthcare analytics, data collection and pre-processing to name a few. His teaching philosophy is grounded in the ideology of "Learning by Doing," emphasizing practical, hands-on experience in learning.
Apart from his academic and research endeavors, Dr. Abidi has also made significant contributions to the field through patents. He has applied for patents on various innovative technologies, including image processing techniques for lung cancer classification, AI-driven data communication systems, and intelligent alerting devices for garment fastening.
Dr. Abidi is also actively involved in academic administration, serving as the NBA Criterion 2 Coordinator for the CSE Department at Sharda University and coordinating various student clubs and specializations within the department. His dedication to nurturing future researchers is evident in his successful supervision of Ph.D. candidates, with two theses already defended under his guidance.
