Dean Message
The School of Art, Design and Media Studies was established in 2009 and ever since its inception it has developed as a School with a difference offering series of programmes in various streams of art, design and media studies. The programmes being offered by the School are professional in nature and a rational combination has been developed to impart knowledge and skills. The School has rich state-of-the-art technological resources to impart hands on training in simulated work conditions.
The pedagogy includes a blend of industry inputs with academic concepts that are delivered by both industry professionals and academicians of highest qualifications and repute. This has helped the School to create linkages with the industry and students get exposure to core concepts and a feel of working in the industry.
In the wake of digital revolution, the professional programmes have undergone sea change and the traditional system is no more relevant to meet present day requirements. The School has pooled in all the resources to stay abreast with the latest in a rapidly changing world. The School is in the process of introducing digital component in all the programmes it offers.
The Department of Communication of the School of offers BA (Journalism &Mass Communication), MA (Journalism & Mass Communication) and Ph.D. Programmes. Journalism remains at the heart of mass communication. During the past few decades, the field of journalism has grown at a very fast pace. To meet the demands and requirements of the emerging scenario, the programmes offered by the Department, incorporate theoretical foundations and concepts of journalism blended with skills of reporting, writing and editing.
Journalism and communication education and the media industry are undergoing major transformation. The Department is making every conscious effort to keep pace with the changing scenario and proposes to introduce new programmes in the areas of advertising, public relations, corporate communication and digital media. To further strengthen these efforts, new short term programmes are also being designed in the areas relating to anchoring and presentation, still photography, radio jockeying, digital media marketing, graphics and animation, cinematography, video-editing, script writing etc.
The Department of Design offers a four year full-time programme leading to B. Design with specializations in Industrial and Product Design, Fashion Design, Digital and Communication Design, and Interior Design.
Interior Design is the final differential where students are taken thoroughly in a process, interior design initiative is to take the costumer through an experiential euphoria of finding new ways to experience colour smell and spatial dynamics as a holistic package.
A similar feel is experienced by the students of Industrial-Product Design, in this course we strives to teach a student to appreciate and create real life products which can be useful in the day to day environment and sometimes based on success become an iconic landmark in design evolution, and the students interact with the department of Fashion Design which is also known as apparel design in many institutions, it is a vibrant course which equips our students to understand trending fashion. The students often work closely with Digital Communication Design is a course which helps our students understand and create brand media propaganda and hype.
Working in well-equipped labs, students and faculty members enjoy teaching-learning process in a highly creative atmosphere. A Design Cell has been created to undertake projects and consultancy to encourage and motivate students to get a feel of real working conditions in the industry. The Department is striving to make industry tie up stronger which is resulting into higher rate of placement. The Department is working to develop linkages with leading and premier institutions across the country for faculty and students exchange programmes.
The above mentioned initiatives implemented with the inputs of eminent experts from the industry and pioneer academicians, are paying dividends which can be seen in form of placement of our students in major and significant segment of the design and media industry.
The School is keeping itself abreast with the latest technology and innovations and offers programmes with immense space to nurture the creativity of the students so that they can earn a place of their choice in this competitive world.
