About Department

Combining theory and practice, the department offers you curricula for Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees (BJMC, MJMC, PGD and Ph.D.). The Mass Communication programmes at Sharda University, have been tailored to meet the needs of developing countries and that is what sets it apart. 

All courses at the Department of Mass Communication aim to meet the needs of communication professionals working in various media outfits of the industry. It constantly makes efforts to innovate programmes in order to meet the challenges in the industry.  

A student-run newspaper The Shardans and a student-run on campus radio station are channels only to prepare the students to work for newspapers, television and radio channels, broadcast and film production companies, public relation firms and advertising agencies. The students are  exposed to individual research opportunities also.

The Department of Mass Communication strives to make the students  industry-ready by providing them with a solid academic experience that balances both conceptual and practical courses, professional opportunities and multiple internships all of which are grounded in a foundation of ethics in a diverse and global society.

Awards & Achievements

Seminars & Workshops

  • A Special lecture on “Changing Pattern of News Anchoring” was organized with  eminent news anchor Mr Mark Lynn, from Doordarshan News.
  • "INNOPRENEURS", in collaboration with Sharda Launchpad, was to give an opportunity for students (budding entrepreneurs) to pitch their new and innovative ideas for their new ventures. 
  • Mr Shashwat Gupta Ray (Deputy Editor, Herald Group of Publications ) was invited to deliver a guest lecture on the ‘Freedom of expression and Journalism: The Rights and Duties of Journalists’. 
  • On the occasion of World Radio Day, Suno Shrada 90.8 organized Dignitaries and shared their experiences with students. The objective of the event was to raise greater awareness among the students of the importance of radio: to encourage students to establish and provide access to information through radio in future: and to enhance the skills related to effective communication.
  • A webinar on “Writing Proposals for Research Grants” was organized.Prof. K.G. Suresh, Vice Chancellor, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, was invited as the expert. 
  • ZEST Valorant College Cup 2022", a Four Days Gaming Event, was organized with MESC from 26th March 2022 to 29th March 2022. The Event's objectives were to initiate the e-Sports trend among the students: to give exposure to passionate e-Sports players, allow new players to participate in the e-Sports scene, and enable teams to practice their skills and improve their teamwork. Also, to blend the e-Sports and Video Game Industry with the students. 
  • A special lecture was organized on 11 April 2022 The objective of the event was to understand future career opportunities abroad, to know the latest job-oriented courses in higher education, to understand the current process for admission and preparation, and to know about the current situation of VISA post-COVID-19
  • An interactive session was organized  with the renowned star cast of the famous web series "Bhaukal Season 2" Mr Pradeep Nagar along with actor Mr Rajesh Bhati (Race-3 & Naam Shabana Movie) & Mr Ashok Shital Casting Director Rise Picture Pvt. Ltd S. Shiv ( Director, movie 'Atkan Chatkan') 
  • A special lecture on “Recent trends in News and Digital Platforms of Prasar Bharti” The purpose of the event was to understand the functioning of All India Radio and Doordarshan, to fathom the elements used to measure journalistic work and to understand the latest trends in public broadcasting.
  • To inculcate among the students the concept of theater Kahani ka rangmanch play Na hu ,na Ha was staged in the university. The students were involved right from the script to the final performance.
  • The two-day International Conference on 'Information Age: Culture, Identity, and Communication' (IA-CIC) provided an overview of the current information age's changing scenario. The concept of a new culture, the changing pattern of an identity, and the new communication paradigm broadly affect society. The focus of this conference was to bring forth new ideas, advances, and policies for the community's growth.

  • Shooting of  Bollywood film ‘Atrangi Re’ starring Dhanush, Akshay Kumar and Sara Ali Khan gave students of SMFE an opportunity to work closely with renowned director Anand L. Rai and industry experts like Akshay Kumar.
  • Mr. Peter Levitan, renowned Advertising Business Development Consultant Delivered lecture on Changing paradigms of Advertising & Mass Communication in Digital Landscape.
  • Mr. Shams Tahir Khan, India’s one of the most watched crime show anchor, gave lecture on the phenomenon of crime, crime reporting & changing face of media.
  • Mr.Harshavardhna Kikkeri CEO, Holosuit , delivered lecture on Augmented / Virtual reality Techniques This was an initiative of Vidyadaan in collaboration with MESC.
  • Oscar Winner Mr.Resul Pookutty conducted workshop on the endeavours of Indian sound design. This was an initiative of Vidyadaan in collaboration with MESC.

  • Mr.Nitin Mantri Group CEO AvianWE and President PRCAI delivered lecture on career prospects in Public Relations
  • Mr.Vasily Pushkov,Director Internaltional Cooperation,Sputnik News agency & Radio conducted workshop on responsibility of reporter when covering emergency situation: Pandemic Experience
  • Mr. Sanjay Nigam from NDTV channel apprised thestudents of various methods of TV production. This was primarily to acquaint the students with techniques of pre-production, production & post production.
  • Ms.Twishy Vats Chief Content Officer Inshorts conducted workshop on Smart Content is the Future.
  • CEO and CO-Founder Inshorts News App. Mr. Azhar Iqubal delivered a special lecture on digital journalism & entrepreneurship discussed in detail how technology is shaping journalism. 
  • Dr. Sambit Patra, National spokesperson, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) weaved a relation between media and politics. He emphasized media as a fourth estate of the democracy and has gained importance in the last few years.
