One of our core values at Sharda University is collaboration and Inclusiveness. This entails developing symbiotic community of faculty, students, towards the overall good of the community around which the university functions. Thus, we feel obliged to serve the community in which the university exists and undertake activities for the betterment of the people in general.  We want our students and teachers to participate and get a sense of involvement in the development of our nation.
The idea of National Service Scheme dates back to pre independence days. It was first mooted by Mahatma Gandhi. It emanates fro the very basic need for the students to form living contact with the community in whose midst their institute is located. Students in educational institutions are expected to do something positive so that life of people is raised to higher material and moral levels. Post independence in 1948 Dr Radhakrishnan – then Chairman UGC recommended introduction of NSS in academic institutions. In 1950 Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) also recommended social service as part of education process.   In 1968 Kothari commission on education endorsed the idea.
